Terms of Membership
The Gild Society is a private club. These terms explain how membership works, what we ask of our members, and when membership can be ended. Please read them before you apply.
Effective October 2026
1. About these terms
The Gild Society is operated by The Cheeky Lab, LLC ("Gild," "we," "us"). These terms are an agreement between you and us. By paying the membership fee, submitting an application, attending an evening, or using this website, you agree to them.
They sit alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your information.
2. Who may apply
You must be at least 21 years old, legally able to enter into this agreement, and applying on your own behalf. Our evenings are held at venues that admit guests aged 21 and over, and you may be asked for identification at the door. The information you give us must be true, current, and your own. If we learn that an application contained false or misleading information, we may decline it or end the membership that resulted from it.
3. Applying
The membership fee is paid before you apply. You then complete the application using your payment confirmation number. We aim to review every application within about 48 hours.
Membership is never guaranteed. We may accept or decline any application at our discretion, and we are not obliged to give a reason. If your application is declined, your membership fee is refunded in full to your original payment method. Refunds are issued promptly, though your bank may take several days to show them.
Applications are reviewed with the help of automated tools as well as by people. See our Privacy Policy for more on this.
We do not make membership decisions on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other characteristic protected by law.
4. Your membership year
Membership begins on the day you are accepted and lasts one year. It does not renew automatically, and we will never charge you for a renewal you have not agreed to.
Before your year ends, we may invite you to renew. Renewal is at our discretion and at the membership rate in effect at that time. Our current rate is an introductory one, and we expect rates to change.
Membership is personal to you. It cannot be shared, transferred, gifted, or sold.
5. Fees and refunds
- Membership fee. Once you are accepted, the membership fee is not refundable, except where the law requires otherwise or where section 10 says so.
- Evenings. Gild evenings are reserved and paid for individually. Prices vary by evening. Evenings are booked through Eventbrite or another ticketing provider we authorize.
- If your plans change. Your ticket stays good. Even if you could not give us notice, you may choose another Gild evening at your leisure, subject to availability.
- If we reschedule an evening. You may attend the new date, choose another evening, or ask for a refund. You need only ask, and we will take care of it.
- Food and drink. Unless an evening's listing says otherwise, you are responsible for your own food and drink, including at Gild Taste.
- If we cancel an evening. You will be offered a refund or a place at another evening.
- If you are asked to leave. No refund, credit, or transfer is given for an evening you are removed from because of your conduct.
Nothing in these terms limits any right to cancel or to a refund that you have under the consumer laws where you live.
6. What membership includes, and what it does not promise
Membership gives you the ability to reserve a place at Gild evenings in cities where they are offered, subject to availability. Gild evenings are not held in every city at all times.
From time to time we may also invite members, at no charge, to a Gild evening or to an evening hosted by another brand in the Constellation (see section 8). These invitations are a courtesy we extend at our discretion. We do not promise any particular number of invitations, any particular evening, or any invitation at all.
We do not promise that you will meet a particular person, receive an introduction, or form a relationship. Our matching system, Presence, offers an indication of compatibility based on the answers members give. It is a guide, not a guarantee, and it does not verify what anyone has told us.
7. Private introductions
Your application answers may be used to suggest you for a private introduction, including to clients of our curated introduction and matchmaking services. You will never be charged for an introduction made this way. You are free to decline any introduction, and you may ask us at any time to stop considering you for them. Before an introduction is arranged, we ask you to provide a government-issued photo ID for our records.
8. The Constellation
The Constellation is the group of event brands that The Gild Society belongs to, including MyCheekyDate, Relish, TheCitySet, Fancy·A·Go, NetworkNite, CheekySocial, and Luvo Matchmaking. All of them are operated by The Cheeky Lab, LLC. When you attend an evening hosted by another brand, that brand's own terms apply alongside these. Your conduct at any Constellation evening is treated as conduct at Gild, and section 9 applies there too.
9. How we ask members to behave
Gild exists so that people can meet in a room where everyone feels at ease. Every member agrees to the following, at our evenings, at any Constellation evening, on any introduction we arrange, and in any contact with other members, hosts, or our team, whether in person or by email, text, phone, or social media.
- Be courteous. Treat other members, guests, hosts, and venue staff with respect.
- Take no for an answer. Do not pressure, pursue, or repeatedly contact anyone who has not shown interest or who has asked you to stop.
- No harassment of any kind. This includes unwelcome sexual comments or contact, intimidation, threats, stalking, and discriminatory or demeaning remarks.
- Be who you said you are. Do not misrepresent your identity, age, relationship status, or intentions.
- Drink responsibly. Do not attend intoxicated or become disruptive, and do not use or bring illegal substances.
- Respect privacy. Do not photograph, film, or record other members without their consent, and do not share another member's name, contact details, or anything they told you in confidence, including online.
- No selling. Do not use Gild to promote a business, recruit, solicit money, or collect members' details for any other purpose.
- Honor your reservations. Arrive on time, and do not send anyone in your place.
- Follow the host and the venue. Their instructions and house rules apply on the night.
- Obey the law.
10. Suspension and revocation of membership
Membership in The Gild Society is a privilege, not a right. We may suspend or revoke any membership at any time, at our sole discretion, with or without notice, and we are not obliged to give a reason.
Our decisions are based on conduct. Without limiting our discretion, the following are examples of what may lead to suspension or revocation:
- Any breach of section 9, whether at a Gild evening, a Constellation evening, on an introduction, or in contact with a member or our team.
- A complaint or pattern of concerns about your behavior from other members, hosts, or venue staff.
- Conduct that makes, or is likely to make, another person feel unsafe, unwelcome, or uncomfortable.
- False or misleading information in your application, or a material change we were not told about.
- Abusive, threatening, or hostile communication with our team.
- Conduct that leads a host, staff member, contractor, or venue to decline to work with you again.
- Retaliation against anyone who raised a concern about you.
- Repeatedly failing to attend an introduction we arranged, or a complimentary evening you accepted.
- Conduct outside our evenings, including online, that we believe could harm other members or the reputation of the club.
- Disputing a valid charge, or failing to pay an amount you owe.
- Any other conduct that we consider inconsistent with the character of the club.
We may act on a single incident. We may rely on reports from hosts and members and are not required to share who made them. We may ask you to leave an evening immediately, without a refund for that evening.
What we may do. Depending on what happened, we may give a warning, remove you from an evening, cancel an introduction, suspend your membership, revoke it permanently, or refer the matter to law enforcement. We decide, in our reasonable judgment, whether a breach has occurred.
Effect of revocation. When a membership is revoked, your access to Gild evenings, to invitations across the Constellation, and to private introductions ends at once, and we may decline any future application from you. Revocation by one brand in the Constellation may be applied across all of them.
Refunds. If your membership is suspended or revoked because of your conduct, no part of your membership fee is refunded. If we end your membership for a reason that has nothing to do with your conduct, we will refund the unused portion of your membership year.
Ending it yourself. You may end your membership at any time by writing to us. The membership fee is not refunded when you do.
11. Your safety and your responsibility
We review applications, but we do not carry out criminal background checks. We ask for identification only from members we match for a curated introduction or for matchmaking, and we keep it for our records. We cannot vouch for any member's conduct, background, or statements. You are responsible for your own decisions and your own safety, at our evenings and in any contact you choose to have with someone you meet through us. Please use the same care you would with anyone you have recently met.
You attend evenings, and consume food and alcohol at them, at your own risk. If something at an evening concerns you, tell the host at once, or write to us afterward.
12. Photography at our evenings
We may take photographs at our evenings for quality control. These photographs are for our internal use and are never made public.
The one exception is an evening that is being filmed or televised. We will tell you before that evening, and nothing showing you is made public without your permission, given in advance.
13. This website and our content
The Gild Society name, the content of this website, the application, and our matching methods belong to us. You may not copy, republish, or use them commercially without our written permission. Member-only pages and passwords are for members alone and must not be shared.
14. Limits on our responsibility
To the fullest extent the law allows: our services are provided as they are, without warranties of any kind; we are not responsible for the conduct of any member, guest, or venue; and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Our total liability to you in connection with your membership is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.
You agree to cover our reasonable costs and losses arising from your breach of these terms or your conduct toward another person.
15. Messages from us
You agree to receive messages from us electronically, including invitations, schedule changes, introduction notices, and notices about your membership. You may opt out of promotional messages at any time. We will still send messages needed to run your membership.
16. Venues and other providers
Our evenings take place at venues we do not own, and we use outside providers for ticketing, payment, and software. We are not responsible for their policies, actions, or availability. Each venue's own rules apply while you are there.
17. California residents
If you live in California, you may cancel your membership, subject to applicable California law, before midnight of the third business day after the day you joined, where such rights apply. To cancel, write to us at the address in section 21.
18. Disagreements
If you have a concern, please write to us first. You agree to try to resolve it with us informally for at least sixty days before starting any legal proceeding.
Any dispute that cannot be resolved that way will be settled by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association, except where the law does not allow it. Arbitration may be conducted by phone, video, or written submissions. Either of us may still ask a court for temporary injunctive relief.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. For any dispute not subject to arbitration, the courts of Los Angeles County, California, have exclusive jurisdiction. By agreeing to these terms, you consent to the jurisdiction of the California courts for that purpose.
19. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The current version is always on this page, with its effective date at the top. If a change is significant, we will tell members by email. Continuing as a member after a change means you accept it.
20. General
If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any policy they refer to, are the whole agreement between you and us about your membership.
